1 Prehistoric Cultures North of Superior: The Archaeology of North-Central Ontario.
Ontario: Ministry of Culture and Recreation, Historical Planning and Research Branch, 1979.
Octavo, paperbound (stapled, illus. wrappers), 11 pp. Illustrated. From Introduction: The prehistory of North-Central Ontario spans nearly 9,000 years, from about 7,000 BC to the AD 17th Century. Archaeologists working in the area over the past 20 years have recorded over 1,000 sites belonging to the original inhabitants of Northern Ontario. Through their stone tools, broken pottery sherds, food remains, and other discarded items, the long forgotten lifeways of these prehistoric peoples are slowly and painstakingly being reconstructed...

7 Blackstock, C. M. All the Journey Through.
Toronto: University of Toronto Press, (1997).
Octavo, grey cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, [xiv] + 291 pp. Fine (As New) in a Fine (As New) dust jacket. From dust jacket: Our knowledge and appreciation of the nineteenth century seem largely to have vanished. In this book, the author reconstructs that world, basing her story on a vast family correspondence that was meant to be destroyed. With their fair share of eccentricities and human failings, several generations provide a microcosmic view of the building of a nation. All the Journey Through is also the story of the making of a Toronto family, though much of the narrative takes place outside the city. Recollecting her childhood in the 1920s and 1930s, the author begins with the large weekly family dinner parties and the Sunday afternoon teas for the children held at her grandmother's house in Toronto, and the happy times spent in Longwood, her grandmother's summer house on Lake Simcoe, Then, quoting extensively from the letters, which date from 1817 to 1919, the author reaches further back into the past.

13 Conrod, W. High. Athene, Goddess of War: The Canadian Women's Army Corps, Their Story. With a Foreword by Colonel Margaret (Eaton) Dunn, O. B. E., Retd., Director General C. W. A. C.
Halifax, Nova Scotia: Wm. Macnab & Son Ltd., (1983).
Signed and inscribed by the author. Octavo, brown cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, 397 pp. Neat former-owner bookplate; otherwise, Fine (As New), in a Very Good+ dust jacket with light rubbing. From dust jacket: Athene is a history, but ist's also a love story, an unexpected unveiling of the first days of women's liberation in Canada, and a retrospective look at how more than 21,000 Canadian women convinced a federal government, a reluctant army and a doubting Canadian public that they not only had the right to serve their country in time of war, but could be of valuable assistance as well. THe research into Athene disclosed that the surviving Corps veterans still have an on-going love affair with their old unit. While many of them have achieved striking careers since World War II, they look back on those days between 1941-46 as the “happiest of our lives!” It was a time of accomplishment and making of life-long friendships. They struggled, these courageous women, to break down walls which changed Canadian society in post-war years...

17 Epp-Tiessen, Esther. Altona: The Story of a Prairie Town.
Atona, Manitoba, Canada: D.W. Friesen & Sons Ltd., 1982. First Edition.
Octavo, blue cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, xi, 373 pp. Fine, in a Fine dust jacket. Includes bibliographic documentation, numerous tables, maps, and illustrations. “This book tells the story of Altona, settled by a small group of pioneers on an original settlement on the prairies in the 1870s. The old Altona Village, which was settled in the 1880s, graduallly evolved into a modern town. It is an absorbing story well told. The author has researched her book thoroughly from original as well as secondary sources and supplemented this with oral interviews. The book is well illustrated, and is complete with index, bibliography, glossary, tables, and figures. It is more than a chronological story. Against the background of history, the author has also sketched the struggle of the Mennonite pioneers to maintain their identity, and at the same time adapt to the current and changing conditions of society around them. And in it we also learn what it is to be Canadian and at the same time to be part of a minority group.”

18 Fitzhugh, William W. Environmental Archeology and Cultural Systems in Hamilton Inlet, Labrador: A Survey of the Central Labrador Coast from 3000 B.C. to the Present. [Smithsonian Contributions to Anthropology, Number 16].
City of Washington: Smithsonian Institution Press, 1972.
Quarto, paperbound (stiff, printed blue wrappers), xix + 299 pp, 80 figures, 87 plates, 30 tables. Very Good-, with edgewear and rubbing to covers. From Abstract: This monograph presents the results of a two-year investigation of the prehistoric and contemporary cultural geography of the Hamilton Inlet region of the central Labrador coast. Previously archeologically unknown, this 200-mile estuary cross-cuts the boreal-tundra ecotone and is an are in which there exists contemporary cultural diversity, including Eskimos, Indians, white trappers, and codfishermen. Until recently these cultures maintained distinctly different settlement patterns and economies and existed in basically a hunting and gathering tradition. These cultures provide models of potential prehistoric cultural diversity for an archeological study involving regional environmental and cultural analysis, which resulted in contributions to culture history, paleoenvironmental studies, and the role of ecology and adaptive configureations in the cultural geography of the region through time. The study is divided into five parts, including methods of cultural ecology, the natural enviornment, the contemporary cultural enviornement, the prehistoric cultural environment, and configuration and adaptation patterns...
