8 The W. S. Tyler Company. Through the Meshes. Volume 44, No. 1.
Cleveland, Ohio: The W. S. Tyler Company, (1951).
12mo, paperbound (stapled, b&w photo. illus. white wrappers), [27] pp. Very Good, with light rubbing to covers. Illustrated. From essay: More than a century ago the celebrate Frenchman, Alexis de Tocqueville, noted in his study of America that in a democracy the will of the customer rules production; and the customers are the masses of the people. The prevailing aim, he said, is to sell goods at a low price to all. To this end, methods are devised for doing better work more quickly and more cheaply, and for making goods not so much to gratify the whims of the wealthy as to supply the demands of ordinary customers. On the day we read the foregoing summary of de Tocqueville's observations, we also read the closing sentence in Dr. Thomas Nixon Carver's autobiography, published in 1949, called Recollections of an Unplanned Life...

9 Timmis, Walter S. Water Pipe Sizes. Revised Edition, 1936. A.I.A. File No. 29-B-4: August, 1936.
Bridgport, Connecticut: Bridgeport Brass Company, 1936.
Octavo, paperbound (stiff, stapled, blue wrappers), 48 pp. Good+, with rubbing to covers. From Foreword: The tables and data on Water Pipe Sizes have been reprinted several times and have been favorably received by architects and engineers. We have been most fortunate in receiving friendly, constructive criticisms and have incorporated most of the suggestions in this present revised issue. We are calling your particular attention to the new tables and data -- Flow of Water in Copper Water Tube -- never before published. These tables should prove very valuable in view of the ever increasing popularity of Copper Water Tube for general plumbing, heating, fuel oil and underground service. It is evident that the selection of pipe sizes is still somewhat of an art, because engineers differ in points of view and methods of attacking the problem. It is believed, however, that the booklet as originally presented by Mr. Timmis is sound in theory and practice. In order to make this booklet still more useful and complete, we have included technical information on Bridgport Plumrite Brass and Copper Pipe, Copper Water Tube, and Plumbers' Brass Goods.
