The entire second terrace on the mainland north of a slough exhibited evidence of prehistoric occupation for at least 1000 feet. On the downstream end of this terrace west of the preesnt confluence of the slough and river was an intensively occupied area that produced shell-tempered pottery and bone and shell refuse...On the upstream or east end of this terrace above the right bank of the slough a shellmidden was reported by Mr. West...

Signed by the Author. Octavo, blue leatherette (hardcover), gilt letters and decoration to upper cover,175 pp. Near-Fine, in a Good+, mylar protected dust jacket with edgwear that incudes a small tear to upper cover. From dust jacket: Remembering with Granny is a collection of charming and nostalgic tales of a young girl growing up in a poor family during the Great Depression. Granny will capture your imagination with accounts of fun, love and happiness despite poverty. You will read of a time often referred to as “The Good Old Days,” when life was simple but full of hardships, when neighbors helped neighbors and all members of a family pulled together for the common good. You will understand the love and wisdom of Mom and Dad Derryberry, who taught their twelve children that poverty is not an excuse to abandon the true values of life. These stories will bring laughter and tears, evoke memories of childhoods past, and awaken the often forgotten spirit of family in us all. Read ad reminisce wiht Granny about doing homework by the light of a kerosene lamp, unable to afford electricity; the excitement of her most precious gift -- her only childhood doll; the joy of sharing the little food a family had with weary travelers; riding in an open surrey on cold winter days; standing in line at the outhouse; making toys from odds and ends or things to be thrown away. Live with Granny through her early childhood to dating years, from life at home during World War II to fun times with her children and grandchildren. Understand how happiness and success can be built upon a firm foundation when one never allows adversity and hardship to be an excuse for failure.

The early settlers of Nashville came with the knowledge that the beautfiful area along the Cumberland River would support their families for years. With food in easy abundance, Nashvillians had 1797 created a frontier atmosphere so refined that it amazed a visiting young Englishman and, by 1897, the Tennessee Exposition held there amazed visitors with its Athenian Parthenon, which only added to the city's already distinguished architecture...
