4 Berger, Charles. Flamenco Gitano.
Artisan Press, 1974. Number 34 of an edition limited to 250. Signed and numbered.
Signed by the Author. Folio, gray illus. cloth (hardcover), specialty thick paper, uncut, unpaginated. Very Good, with light wear to covers. The photographs are original color transparancies which have been silk-screen printed by Trend Graphics, Inc. The text has been hand set in Garamond types and printed by Rick Wachs at Ampersand Press. Binding is by Cardoza-James. The title page and map are by Madeline Gilbert-Berger. From author's Foreword: This is a book of photographs of the music of the gypsies living in Spain. Among the gypsy people, only Spain's gitanos have evolved an art form that reflects and cultivates the passionate lives and ofttimes tragic deaths that characterize the gypsy cultural experience. For it is in the music of flamenco that the gitano, bereft of written language or history, can evoke the heritage of his blood through the experience of duende, where all becomes spirit. Such expression and experience of duende is the goal of the flamenco artist in creating his music, as it has been the focus of my camera and the intent of this work.

11 Imus, Don and Fred Imus. Two Guys, Four Corners: Great Photographs, Great Times, and a Million Laughs.
New York: Villard, 1997. First Edition, stated.
Oblong quarto, tan boards (hardcover), gilt letters and stamped illustration to upper cover, [xi] 112 pp + [iii] pp. Fine (As New) in a Fine (As New) dust jacket. From dust jacket: Fred and Don Imus grew up on a 35,000 -acre cattle ranchin Arizona. On trips with their parents throughout the Southwest, they came to love their surroundings: from the red rocks of Sedona to the Grand Canyon at sunrise, from the white sands of New Mexico to the Hopi reservation at Second Mesa, to monuments great and small. The area seduced them, so much so that the brothers have devoted endless hours and adventures to capturing this unforgettable landscape on film. Two Guys Four Corners is the Imuses' spectacular collection of photography of their home turf. Their cameras take in the Southwest in all its glory and contraditions -- from prehistoric ruins to tourist trains, from heartstopping vistas to the everyday lives of the remaining Indians. And permeating it all, in words and pictures, are the Imuses' sense of adventure, sense of beauty and, of course, sense of fun. They've created an unusual personal book, which now can be shared by all.

12 Mark, Mary Ellen. Indian Circus. Foreword by John Irving.
San Francisco: Chronicle Books, (1993).
Large octavo, red cloth (hardcover), 107 pp. Near-Fine, with slight darkening along edges; in a like dust jacket. From dust jacket: Mary Ellen Mark fell in love with the Indian circus in 1969, during her first trip to India. As she watched a huge hippopotamus walk around the ring with its mouth wide open, wearing a pink tutu, she was struck by the beauty and innocence of the show. She returned to India many times, and in 1989 and 1990 she devoted six months to photographing eighteen circuses, following them around the continent by train, plane, van, and auto-rickshaw. Secretive, highly competetive, and each a closed, self-sufficient society, the circuses embody what Mark cals Ňa poetry and a craziness that are still uncorrupted, and honest, and pure.Ó Beautifully printed in tritone, this remarkable collection of photogaphs captures the texture of circus life outside of the ring -- exhausting, humorous, poignant, and often bizarre -- as well as the affection and devotion that the performers have for each other and their animals. Indian Circus is documentary filming at its finest. The photographs are not only compelling portraits of the performers, but also eloquent and poetic narratives about life in the Indian circus.
